Ford Madox Brown in Pastels

Here is a piece I did recently with pastel pencils.   This was for level 7 of the New Masters course that I take.

Here is the my previous Moses picture washed over with watercolor.  So now it counts as a painting.

Elija Redux

Here is an 11" x 15" watercolor version of March 27th's "Elijah and the Offering."  This has no ink work in it in any way.  It didn't follow the original value pattern as closely as I would have liked.

Army of one

This picture depicts Samson's battle against 1000 Philistines. This one is also done in India Ink with a quill-tip pen.

Inconceivable Crossing

This piece depicts the waters of the Red Sea rolling back in preparation of the Israelite masses to pass through. This was done with India Ink and quill-tip.

David's Trophy

Here is a quill-tip piece that depicts one of the more iconic scenes from the bible. David has just decapitated Goliath and is showing off the head to the troops "Conan-the-barbarian style."

This picture doesn't have much in the way of a value scheme, so that will have to be addressed in the future.

Return of the Wave

My old "wave theme" from a year ago makes its comeback with the debut of this piece.

It's not as close to my old wave pictures as I would like, but it has its own charm.

Elijah and the Offering

Here is a quill-tip piece I did in India ink. The subject is of Elijah's offering being accepted after Baal's offering remained untouched.

This piece is cropped. However, only unimportant stuff was cut out, so you're not missing much.

Nehemiah's wall 2

Here is another sketch of Nehemiah's reconstruction of Jerusalem. This time there is a greatly exaggerated mountain in the background. In retrospect it shouldn't have been made as high as the gate tower.

House Row

Here is a remake of a piece I did a year ago. I can't post the original since it won't fit in the scanner but suffice it to say, this one is much prettier. I have also posted the value pattern for it.

The issues I have with this one is the uniform power poles and the rough front of the middle house.

Nehemiah's wall

Here are a couple of hatching pieces I did today concerning Nehemiah's wall. The bottom picture was the prototype. I figured that ancient Jews didn't have access to massive two by fours while building the wall, so I made the second sketch. The only issues I have with that one is that one of the supports is bending unsafely, and that it's only taking two people to hoist a multi-ton brick.

Wheat Field

This silhouette of wheat was done on a wash of Quinacridone Alizarin Crimson and Indian Yellow.

Fist Full of Wheat

This piece is done with a complimentary color scheme. The fist has a pitiful amount of wheat in it. Unfortunately, the distant details aren't fading as they should. The distant wheat should be less distinct than the wheat in the foreground.

Lighthouse Excerpt

Here is an excerpt from a half-sheet piece I did today as well as a black and white, preliminary value pattern sketch. The painting as a whole didn't turn out so well, so its dead weight was trimmed.

Island Piece

Here is a reflection experiment that was done last year. An exercise in wet-on-wet technique.
