Path to religiously purposed building

I chose this building as the subject because its tower makes a nice change in line direction for the roof. It also breaks up the sky area to make it more diverse. To answer the inquiry of why there is no parking space for the church, the path could be considered as a path from the parking lot.

Lighthouse point

This is an excerpted section from an attempted pen and wash painting. I think the boat looks rather nice.

House Vignette

Here is the last picture I made from the previously mentioned workshop in California.

It can stand to have the surfaces of the building to have a greater value difference. Also the tree colors turned out rather poorly.

A little something from California

Here is a piece I did during a Tony Couch workshop at Laguna Beach during this past week. An unintended but interesting effect was that the two cliff faces in the piece seem to vibrate.

Woodland Scene

Here is a painting that I did on October 5th that was inspired by one of Tony Couch's pieces.

House

This picture has potential. The subject matter is fine, but it needs a center of interest with contrasting values to bring the picture to life. Unfortunately the bright colors and strong darks of the bushes draw attention away to the wrong place. After all, the house's dominant size suggests that it is the picture's focus, not the bushes.

Biblical scene recreation

This is a reinterpretation of Jacob blessing Ephraim and Manasseh, originally done by Basil Wolverton. Jacob is not intended to look angry here, he's just frowning in concentration while praying.

Happy Thanks giving

Here is a piece I just completed this Thanksgiving. I might redo this picture. I never liked the stands of trees.

Mountain Value sketch

Here is a more advanced sketch on the subject.

Mountain Value sketches 2

Here are some more I have done for the same purpose as the first. these sketches were done as exercises in learning to reproduce paintings to areas of differing degrees of dark and light.

Mountain Value sketches 1

Here are some calligraphy pen sketches I made in preparation for a piece I intend to do in the future.

Second design attempt

This is the second attempt at my second design. There was an intermediate piece done, but due to a glitch it won't post.

First attempt at design

This was an attempt at extensively designing a piece from two sketches.

Unfortunately the house and the trees seem to float off the page because of a lack of mid-values.

Here are a couple of practice runs I did. The Trees I did today, the cat I did a while ago.

Cat face is another look at Garf, the family mascot. The trees are loosely based on a painting in the Gordon MacKenzie book, "The Watercolorist's Essential Notebook - Landscapes"

Thunder Mountain

Here is a 9 x 12 pen and wash original I finished today. The smaller rock in the foreground is called "The Sugar Loaf."

This mountain scene is what you see looking west from Sedona, Arizona.
